There are just those time in our lives where things get pretty busy. We may be running from work to our kid’s practice time to the other kid’s practice time to our volunteer work to wherever else our busy lives take us. That sentence makes me tired!
For me, the past couple of weeks have been filled with redecorating our guest bathroom and kitchen and that has left things in a mess and me not in the mood to cook.
Eating out can get expensive – fast! Plus, it’s not always an option. It can take too long to prepare some meals, so you need something easy and quick to prepare. Hopefully, I can help you out with that.
Here are some things that can help you during those busy times.
Prepare ahead of time. If you know that the next week is going to be really busy, take some time to prepare as much as possible for the upcoming week. Make a menu for the week. Make sure you have all ingredients on hand. Take a couple of hours to make as many meals as possible and freeze them.
Use the crock pot. Meal is ready when you are!
Cook everything in the oven. I have a couple of meals where I cook everything in the oven all at once.
Prepackaged meals. There is nothing wrong with frozen lasagna, pizza or even hamburger helper. They can be life savers.
Here are some of my favorite quick and easy meals. Click on the links for the recipes.
The chicken salad part can be prepared ahead of time.
Again, the meatballs can be prepared ahead of time and frozen, either cooked or not.
Meatloaf, Rice and Vege is a meal I love to cook. It is one that I cook all at one time in the oven. I use regular rice. Take 2 parts water to 1 part rice, salt to taste, put it all in a baking dish with a lid and bake for 45 minutes at 350. Start it first if meat is not frozen or at the same time if it is frozen. Use the recipe from the Sweet and Saucy Meatballs for the loaf. Just make it a loaf instead of balls. Put your choice of vegetable in a baking dish and pop in the oven with the meat and rice. Dinner is ready in 45 minutes. (Note: the rice is stickier cooked like this.)
This is such a quick meal to put together and it cooks in the oven. Prepare it the night before or in the morning and just pop it in the oven. Ready in 45 minutes. Just enough time to give the kids a bath or get some homework done.
Vege Night Not only does it save a little money, but it is easy and fast to warm up some vegetables. Of course, here in the south that includes some mac and cheese!
Sandwiches Have the meat and bread ready to go. Be sure to have some fruit on hand to serve on the side.
Being prepared is the best way to get through those very busy weeks. It doesn’t take long to prepare and will save you time and energy in the long run.
Just like preparing meals, we should also be prepared to share the gospel, even during busy times of our lives. We have to spend the time necessary to put God’s word into our hearts and minds. We never know when the Lord will have us to share. “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” 1 Peter 3:15
