Tissue Paper Poinsettia

These flowers are pretty and easy to make. They can be made in any color you like. Pastel colors would be pretty for spring and summer. Yellow and orange would go perfectly with fall. In red they would look like poinsettia for Christmas. Even in white they would be lovely. Once you get the hang of it, they don’t take long and you could make a bouquet of them.

Materials

  •  Tissue paper-2 colors
  • floral wire
  • floral tape
  • pencil
  • ruler

How To Make

Make two rectangle templates to trace. One should be 1 3/4 inches x 2 3/4 inches. The other is 1 1/4 x 2 inches.

Fold 1 sheet of  tissue paper (the color you want to use as petals) about 7 layers deep.  Trace your templates on the tissue paper.

Cut them out. I like to use a binder to help hold the paper together.

Fold the layers in half, long ways, and cut a rounded edge, starting about half way up the side. Do this to both sizes. Unfold.

To make a petal place 1 layer between your finger and thumb, leaving straight edge uncovered. Wrap the paper around your thumb and twist the straight edge. be careful not to tear it. Repeat for all petals.

From the other color tissue paper cut 2  3 x 3 inch squares. Roll one square into a ball. Place on top, in the middle of the other square.

Wrap square around the ball and twist.

Attach floral wire to paper twist using floral tape.

Now for the tricky part. I could really use 3 hands here. Start adding the smaller petals, one at a time around the ball. As you add a petal wrap it with tape.

Continue until all small petals are on.Don’t worry if they look funny. You ca fix this by simply twisting and playing with them when all petals are done.

Repeat using the large petals. Off center the large petals with the smaller petals. When all petals are on continue wrapping with tape until all wire is covered.

It should look something like this.

I have to admit that this is not my best one. :( Make several of these to make a bouquet or just a couple and add with other paper flowers to make a bouquet. I have a couple of other paper flowers patterns you can make to use with this. You can also make some paper leaves to use as filler. These too are on here for you.  It will take about an afternoon to make a bouquet. Have fun!!!

Hearing from you makes my day!
