Getting Organized

Here is what I have learned so far about becoming organized.

  1. I’m not very good at it.
  2.  I’m more of a “fly by the seat of your pants” kind of girl. I do what I am in the mood to do.
  3. Being number 2 isn’t very efficient. It hinders being productive and getting more done.
  4. Becoming organized doesn’t come naturally to me.
  5. It ain’t just gonna happen.
  6. It takes a lot of work!
  7. It takes time to change habits and get into a new routine.
  8. God is the God organization and wants us to be organized too. Just look at how organized and ordered the creation was. We also get a glimpse of Him wanted us to be organized in Proverb 31: 15. “She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants.” Portions isn’t food (like I always thought), but she is deciding what needs to been done that day and who is going to do what.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been researching (aka surfing Pinterest) organizing ideas. There are plenty of them out there. Some I liked and some I didn’t. Some I actually downloaded, but then realized that printing them would use a lot of ink, because they were so pretty and colorful. Some were a good start, but just weren’t enough for me.

Guess what I did?

I made my own.

Yes, I borrowed ideas and tweaked them. And really, who doesn’t to that?

I have put together a notebook to help me grow my blog. I’ll share that with you on another post.

I’m working on a Budget Notebook and getting My Man to do one.

And I have just finished a “Things To Do Today” sheet!

Things to do today This is for me as a blogger. You can download a free printable of it here.

Because I do realize that many of you are not bloggers, but do work either in or out of the home. I made one for you too. It looks just like the one pictured above. I just changed the word “blog” to “work.” You can download your free printable here

I like this sheet because it helps me to keep track of all the things I am trying to do or change in my life, like trying to drink more water and eat more fruit. When I drink a glass of water, I mark a glass off. When I eat a piece of fruit (or vegetable), I mark it off.

I also decided to keep things simple by only putting three things to get done under both blog/work and home. I’m going to make those the three most important, have to get them done things to do. I tend to make a list of 10-15 things to do in a day and only half, if even that many, get done. If you think about it, the blog/work and home add up to six thing to do, half of my normal 10-15 things. Other minor things can go in the “notes” box.

Did you notice the “Things Not To Do Today”? These are habits I am trying to break.

The Personal Goals/Habits are things I’m trying to learn to do. For now my two are going to be going to bed by 10:30 and getting up at 6:00. With MM starting a new job soon, we will have to get up earlier for it, so I want to begin now. As this becomes a good habit, I’ll change what I put on the lines.

Another habit I want to begin is memorizing Scripture. No better place to keep looking at it then the list I keep going to all day to mark things off. Hence, the “Memory Verse” box.

Of course we all have errands, calls and appointments we have to remember.

To save money and paper I am going to print this front and back. I may even do it on card stock and laminate it and use dry erase markers so I can use it over and over.

Now, you know what I have been doing the past couple of weeks.  God has really been working on me about getting more organized. Pretty “to do list” won’t make me organized unless I put them into use.

If your New Year’s Resolution was to get better organized and you haven’t done very well, don’t give up. It does take time and it does take work. Keep at it! I’ll be praying for you!

Love ya,
