I Did Something Different on My Mantle

For years, I have done the same thing to decorate my mantle for Christmas. I usually can’t even start most of my decorating until we get our tree. I use the branches we cut off the bottom around the house.

Well, this year I didn’t want to wait that long since the season is so short. So… I marched myself right out to the woods behind our house and got me some decorations. (Be sure you read that last sentence with a strong southern accent. That helps to make it sound grammatically correct.) You can read about that adventure here.

IMG_2411 I laid the lights down first.  Then I laid the pine branches over the lights.

IMG_2474 Next, came the cedar branches. Those are the pokiest things. I itched for hours!

IMG_2472I picked up two grocery sacks of huge pine cones the last time we were at the lake. I used four of them right smack in the center.

I wanted some candles, so I placed two bottles with white candles on each side. I think I’m going to change them to red, to add some color.

IMG_2473 I cut the suckers off the bottom of a Crape Myrtle to make this star garland.

The stockings were made years (really stretch out saying the word “years”) ago.

I wanted to do a glitter Nativity on the mirror, but mine didn’t turn out that well. I opted for this instead.

IMG_2468 I have a tradition of putting up a nativity scene on the mantle. It just feels right.

Next week, I will show you how I made the star garland and how I did the chalkboard.

IMG_2470 Here’s a look at the whole mantle.

IMG_2476All lit up! I love the shadows it casts!

IMG_2477 Oh look! You can see the two outside lights through the window!

Bright light just went on in my head! I just feel like it needs something to the sides of the chalkboard. I know what I’m gonna do! You (I’m pointing my finger at you) will just have to see next week.

So much more to do! Gotta go so I can get it all done before we go get our tree tonight!

Until next week,                                                                                                                                         Jayne

Coming soon a Christmas tour of the house and something of the heart!
