Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

I have really, really gotten bored with eating the same stuff. Yes, you have heard me complain about this before. I am a crafter at heart. I can cook, but don’t have a passion for it. I thank the Lord for people who do! I thank the Lord for allowing someone to create Pinterest, so I can find yummy recipes.

Whatcha Need

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup thinly sliced onion
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt

Putting It All Together

hamburger staek 001In a skillet, heat about 1 tablespoon oil.

hamburger staek 002In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Form into 8 balls.

hamburger staek 003 Flatten into patties.

hamburger staek 004Fry the patties in the oil until patties are nicely browned, about 4 minutes per side. Remove the beef patties to a plate, and keep warm.

hamburger staek 005Chop or slice the onions and add to oil and cook until tender.

hamburger staek 007Sprinkle flour over the onions and drippings in the skillet. (I removed some of the dripping because I didn’t want me gravy that greasy.) Stir in flour with a fork, scraping bits of beef off of the bottom as you stir.

hamburger staek 008Gradually mix in the beef broth.  Season with seasoned salt.

hamburger staek 010Simmer and stir over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, until the gravy thickens.

hamburger staek 011Turn heat to low, return patties to the gravy.

hamburger staek 013Spoon some gravy over the patties. Cover, and simmer for another 15 minutes.

I stopped taking pictures at this point. When I removed the dripping, I spilt some on my hand and burned it pretty good. I just wanted to finish as quickly as possibly at this point. My hand is all better now. Thank you for asking!

I served these with mashed potatoes and green beans and biscuits. Maybe we didn’t have the biscuits. They would have been good though!

Enjoy!
