The Mantel

The main focal point of our house for Christmas in the fireplace mantle. Mostly because we spend the majority of our time in the den. I try to do it differently each year. How is how I did it for 2011.

I made the stockings years ago. I think even before Dillon was born. I had to make his after he was born. Well…duh!

Here they are a little more close up. Each is different, but I used the same material on each. I thought they turned out nicely. But I will never quilt one again…maybe.

I laid garland across the top of the mantle. I usually do the real thing. I use the extra branches cut from the tree. Here it is fake. I like the way the garland helps to hide the wires from the tv. We really have to find a way to do this year round. I laid glass ornaments and placed poinsettia  along the garland. when you do this use an odd number. It makes it look more symmetrical.

On one side of the mantle I placed these red candles. They are in a candle holder I found years ago at a yard sale for .50 cents. One of my favorite finds.

On the other side I placed this vase. Here is how I made it.

I took a glass vase and filled it with tinsel.

I went to the woods behind my house (a tree in your yard will do) and cut some branches. I wired them together to make them look more like a tree. Then I added red beads to the branches. They are not glued on. Just stuck on. Some will fall off if you hit it. I used big and little beads.

The I stuck the branches in the tinsel. Well… actually. I stuck them  both in at the same time. You may need to play around with it some to make it stand up right. It took me a couple of tries to get it to look the way I wanted.

That’s it. Not much to it. Very simple. I like simple.

Hearing from you makes my day!
