He Held the Dust in a Basket

I saw this on Pinterest a while back and knew I had to have one.

Valentine’s Day is coming and I need some decorations. This is a perfect one. My problem was I didn’t have the basket.

I searched the web for a basket like that. Everything I found was $15 or more. I would like to have a wire basket, but not that bad!

I was at my local Goodwill store and guess what I found!

IMG_9790 Okay, it is purple. It is plastic covered wire, but that is what spray paint is for! A couple of coats later…

IMG_9807 Voila!!! My faux wire vintage wire basket!

I made the hearts. I had plenty of left over red, red and white, and heart material to make several.

I made three different sizes. If you look closely at the picture, you can see I just hand-sewed the edges. It’s not perfect by any means, but that gives it the handmade charm.

Next month, I’ll put something else in it. No idea what. I’ll have to get inspired.

I use baskets all over the house. IMG_9923 My basket of pine cones by the fireplace. I dare anyone to use them to start a fire!

IMG_9918My watermelon basket that holds knick-knacks not on display. Its first use was to hold Dillon’s diapers when he was a baby.

IMG_9920The hot pad basket. I like the easy access to them.

IMG_9922The overflowing magazine basket in my bedroom. I really need to get rid of some…no…all of them.

I look at my baskets and I am reminded of one of my favorite verses in the Bible, Isaiah 40:12.

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?”

I read this and I think about how big my God is! Picture here what is being said! Cup your hand and put a little water in it. God measured the waters this way. The heavens are marked off by the breadth of His hand! Stretch your hand out just try to imaging the heavens fitting inside that area. He holds the dust in a basket! He measured the mountains on scales. How awesome, how mighty, how big is God! WOW!

I love the way God using ordinary, everyday things to remind of of Him.

Even baskets.

Great find. I, too, like baskets to hold odds and ends of things. They have such character. When you mentioned the dust though, I only thought of the kind that builds up on everything while I’m reading blogs! Nice tie-in to the Word. I was reading Genesis today: separating the dark from the light–doesn’t that sound like laundry day?

haha The light and dark sounding like laundry made me laugh out loud! You are so right! Great analogy! May have to use that. I’m thinking how the dark can fade into the light and stain if not careful. Hmmm…I’ll have to think on that one! Thanks for the idea!

  2. isn’t is great when we God so clearly in even the common things we use every day?

Hearing from you makes my day!
