One of my sweet children called their daddy one day last week and asked him how much the car insurance would go up if they had gotten a speeding ticket. My heart breaks for my child, yet at the same time I just want to say, “I told you so.”
My “I told you so” comes from experience.
A few years ago I was taking Kathy to one of her twirling competitions. We live in northeast Georgia, and the competition was 4 hours away in southeast Georgia. In the middle of nowhere, I might add.
I had picked her up after school and we headed out. About half way into our journey I came up on a small truck pulling a boat. The truck was not going the speed I was, so I decided to pass it. We were going up a hill, but it was a long hill and there were no solid yellow lines for either side of the road. I made my move. I got into the oncoming traffic’s lane and pushed down on the gas pedal. I had passed the boat and was on my way to pass the truck when over the crest of the hill a line of cars came. I did what anyone else would do and pushed harder on the gas. I got around the truck just in time to see the second car in the line that came over the hill was the Georgia State Patrol.
Just a warning for you. If you ever get pulled over by the GSP, you are going to get a ticket.
The next week I called the courthouse in the county I got the ticket to find out how much it was going to be. I didn’t want to drive 2 1/2 hours to go to court. What the clerk told me blew me away.
$540!!!!
$540!!!!!
I’m still speechless.
My poor child has not yet called the courthouse to find out how much the ticket is going to be. All I know is my poor baby will be speechless, too. My Man and I have warned them that if they ever got a ticket that they would have to pay the fine and the difference in the insurance.
Like mother like child. My baby got fast driving honestly.
How many people in this world are going to be speechless when they find out they aren’t going to heaven after they die?
How many of them will stand before the Lord of the universe fumbling all over their excuses, like I was before the GSP trying to explain why I was speeding, when I knew I was going too fast?
How many people will be in shock at the fine they will receive?
How many Christians will stand before the Lord with no excuse as to why they didn’t tell people about Him?
Personally, I want to hear “Well done, good and faithful servant!” Not “I told you so.”

Great analogy! And wow!! That’s a huge fine for a ticket! Yipes!
You are not kidding!!! Blew me away!!!! Thanks for visiting my blog. Hope you come back and visit often and get to know me and my family better. I enjoyed reading your blog this morning! Great stuff. I will be back!
They are really serious about their “ticket prices.”
Sorry you found out the hard way.
Thanks. Sometimes the hard way to find something out is the best way to learn the lesson.
Yikes! I’ve had a few similar experiences with my teenage boys
) Good luck. Nice to have found your site via sew many ways!
Why thank you very much!! I just love Sew Many Ways! Come back and visit often. I just love company!!!
Wow, $540!? That’s a lot.
Re your comment on my post “What Every man Craves,” Chapman’s love languages are so helpful! We like to use that book in understanding our kids too.
It sounds like your man is a hard worker, and a sweet romantic gift giver too.
I’m smiling with you. Husbands are a wonderful gift, aren’t they?
